On September 23, Theodore Christakis (a former guest of this podcast), published an interesting analysis (and critique) of the manner in which Berlin’s Data Protection Agency had used the EU Digital Services Act enforcement tools to ask Apple and Google to take the DeepSeek mobile application down from their app stores because it thought that the AI platform was unlawfully transferring personal data to China. This month, OpenRouter released its State of AI report analyzing over 100 trillion tokens of LLM interactions across two years. This shows where the real action is in Generative AI. Programming is taking 50% of all tokens, and Claude (Anthropic) dominates that space. Needless to say, Chinese models continue to rule the open weight world. Most interestingly (to me), most application builders seem to be hedging their bets across multiple models rather than committing to become “GPT wrappers” (via Elvis Saravia).
